National Novel Writing Month: Write a Novel this November
For ages 11+
November is National Novel Writing Month, and the challenge: write a novel in one month!
NaNoWriMo is an international creative writing event that takes place every November, helping writers and burgeoning writers finally get their story down on the page. Sometimes the best way to get started…is just to get started. Every student in this class will go home with a hardbound copy of their (first?) novel.
Local writer and children's literature specialist Grace Safford will be guiding young writers through the first steps of novel writing—from brainstorming ideas, creating outlines, character sheets, and building up your writing stamina.
Each class offers the space to learn, write, talk about writing, and make new connections. Grace will start the class with a tip or two (or three or four), and then together we'll dive into dedicated writing time. Children will also have the opportunity to design their own book cover, from art to graphic titles, which will all be included in their hardbound copy of their novel. We’ll also send a link out so families and friends can order more copies of the book.
Students can work on computers or in notebooks (which will later be transcribed) Students are encouraged to bring in a laptop if they have one, but are also welcome to use one of our three computers.
We hope you'll come for a cozy, creative adventure on the page!
Mondays, October 20-December 8, 2025 | 6-8pm No class on Nov 10 & 24
