Homeschool Maker Class: Woodworking, Sewing, and Design
For 2nd to 8th Grades
A makerspace class especially designed for children engaged in home study. This is the perfect class for children who are creative, curious, and very into building and making of all kinds.
In this class, children will rotate between projects every 3-4 weeks to learn the basics of woodworking, sewing, circuitry, visual arts, and more. Our studio’s philosophy is to “follow the child” and let them design and determine the direction of their individual projects, within each area of discipline.
Through working in a variety of skillsets, children will build lifelong skills in each discipline but will also learn the basics of project management — how to work through the stages of brainstorming, design, analysis then construction and proper finishing, all without getting overwhelmed.
As a sustainable makerspace, we feel strongly about reusing, recycling and upcycling materials, from wood to fabric to small recyclables and house paint. This ethos is passed on to our students as much as possible, as we learn how to disassemble found objects to create something new and beautiful. We work with sustainably sourced, natural materials as much as possible.
This class will run for 14 sessions.
