Laser Cut Relief Art: A Drawing, Laser Cutting, and Acrylics Class

$159.00

for grades 3-5

In this class, children will be bringing their drawings (or tracings!) to 3D relief.

Local toy designer and fabricator Ben Bearsch is back in the studio to lead this 4-week class. This class builds on our introductory laser cutting class, but children do not have to have taken the first class to follow along in this class, although it is highly recommended in order to begin building their comfort with digital CAD software, understanding how laser cutters work, and the array of tools available on laser cutters, as well as laser cutters’ limitations.

In this laser cutting class, children will be designing and drawing their artwork on paper, then learning how to scan their pieces into digital formats. In terms of artwork subject matter: if they can draw it, we can laser cut it! Children will have full control over the overall look and subject matter of their drawing, from detailed maps to superheroes to landscapes. For children that need it, we will also help them learn to draw their ultimate artwork.

Once their drawing is digitized, they’ll laser cut their artwork into layerable pieces to create a 3D relief effect. From there, children will have full access to our supply wall, paint studio, and fabric to decorate, paint, stain, and polyurethane their 3D relief artwork to achieve a finished product. Every piece will go home in a custom frame ready for hanging.

This class will run for 4 weeks. Drop off is between 3-3:30pm.
