Beginner's Sewing Workshop: Zipper-Closure Accent Pillow Covers
Whether you’ve never sewed before, have a few middle school Home Ec classes under your belt, or just need pointers on accent pillow construction, we guarantee that you’ll go home with a fresh pop of color for your living room or bedroom. New pillows are the perfect way to change the look and feel of your home instantly (and on the cheap!)
In this 2-week workshop, we’ll break down design rules for pillow sizes for sofas or beds, create square or rectangular sewing patterns based on your needs, and construct two pillow covers customized for your home. Students will learn the basics of cutting patterns, threading and using sewing machines, as well as how to insert an invisible zipper.
Students are welcome to use any fabric on our fabric wall and our supply of invisible zippers. Or, if you’re looking to achieve a certain look and color scheme for your living room, feel free to bring in your own fabric! (We love Etsy for great deals on designer and vintage home decor fabrics!) We recommend at least 2/3 yd of fabric per pillow.
